. we have bob redell near the san mateo coast where the boat capsized just yesterday. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. signs of hope that those two men might have made it to shore. we spoke with a member of the family. they told us that last night they did find two articles of clothing. two jackets. not life jackets, but regular jackets between the pigeon point light house and the wreckage a mile north of here looking in the direction you are looking at right now. that is one reason both families are back out here this morning looking for their loved ones. so is the coast guard. one of the helicopters has been buzzing up the san mateo county shore line searching for the men. they were on the 18 foot fishing boat that capsized this morning. four men, all friends and fishermen, were a mile out when at 10:30 yesterday morning, a large wave toppled them and their boat sending everyone in the cold surf. two of the men had life jackets and they made it to shore and alerted the authorities. the other two were not wearing life jackets. one of those men is randy deng's

fifth drop in six sessions. let's get straight down to bob and rick. it is a new quarter, a new week. i believe since 1980 the fourth quarter has generally been the best quarter of the year for the s&p. could it be a little different this time round considering we've got lot of things to get through, like an election and an upcoming fiscal cliff? >> yeah. i think most important thing is still going to be whether we can keep the expected momentum in some of the earnings. this may be the trough for earnings. we'll be at negative in q3 for the earnings compared to the third quarter of last year. a lot of expectations are riding on pushing up the earnings this quarter, particularly in the financials. we're expecting 20% growth. if you ask me where the tension is, i'm not sure they can pull out that kind of growth. dow industrials, we sort of sold going into bernanke's -- he spoke at the economics club in the midwest. the important thing here, no real change in his policies. we did see some comments on inflation. he's not that worried about it. elsewhere in the major sectors, risk on toda

girl was sexually assaulted and then dragged off campus more than a week ago. bob redell is live outside parkside elementary school. bob, we're hearing parents will notice these changes as soon as they drop their kids off this morning? >> reporter: you are correct. good morning to you, jon. some of these changes went into effect last week. all of them will be implemented by this morning and they're all designed to make it as difficult as possible for anyone to get onto campus. one of the most obvious changes is they have added this new gate. all the gates, including this one, are now locked. the idea is they want everyone to be going in through one entrance, and that entrance being the main entrance. they are using that as a choke point to be able to see who's coming and going onto the school grounds. parents are no longer allowed to pick up or drop off their child on campus. they can go to the front main entrance but that's where they say their hellos and goodbyes. anyone who has business on campus must sign in at the main office and wear a visitor badge. it was ten days ago tha

the top of the ticket in this case. >> in terms of the soothing, dana, bob dole was very soothing to mr. romney or he wrote over this weekend an op ed piece that i'm sure was intended to be soothing. i certainly wouldn't have liked it if i was the nominee. but his intent, i'm sure, was to be soothing because he wrote no one aspires to be defeated -- a defeated presidential candidate. but then he went on further and he argued that there is light at the end of the tunnel for dole that was an improbable career, pitching visa, duncan donuts and viagra. and he goes on to say, the greatest of life blessings cannot be counted in electoral votes. so he's telling mr. romney, i assume, don't worry about it. you can do what i did and i guess that's soothing. >> it's soothing in a many of speaking but there's a crucial different here and that is that bob dole in 1996 fought the good fight. but, look, the economy by then was booming. nobody really gave him a chance of winning. what is happening here is you have romney losing a race that everybody thought he was perfectly capable of winning. so if

of the trading quarter, up 123 points right now. bob pisani's joining me now on the floor. you're up a little sigh of relief there. a rally that's carried over to the u.s. but are the underpinnings here at home strong enough? >> new order xoen fent norcompo ism moved the market up in addition to follow-through from europe. the dow industrials were off the high 2-1 advancing to declining stocks. it was 3-1 earlier but you could see we've dipped a little just in the last 15 minutes or so. in terms of what's moving here, well, right across the board, pretty nice rally here. energy materials, industrials, even consumer staples participating in this rally. we're expecting very significant increase in earnings about 20% over last year. >> that's almost a 4% gain in goldman sachs. >> look at the overall group moving to the up side. we need some positive earnings commentary from this group for the fourth quarter for the s&p to make numbers. finally, airlines are up as the international air transport association talked about a higher profit outlook for the airlines this year. given the prices
